1. What is Ritū?

Ritū is a nourishing daily drink made from ancient plants cultivated long before coffee existed — roasted chicory, barley, shade-grown cacao, amaranth, maíz morado, and mesquite. It’s designed to replace the habit of coffee with a more grounded morning ritual.

2. How do you pronounce Ritū?

It’s pronounced “Rich-oo” — like the first part of the word ritual. The name reflects a return to rhythm, season, and daily practice.

3. Is Ritū coffee?

No. Ritū is a coffee alternative — not coffee with additives. It’s made from global ingredients used in morning beverages in different cultures, and crafted to offer warmth, depth, and satisfaction without a crash.

4. Does Ritū contain caffeine?

Ritū contains no added caffeine. Each cup includes about 5mg of naturally occurring caffeine from cacao, roughly equivalent to a cup of decaf coffee. Ritū also contains theobromine, a gentler compound found in cacao that’s often associated with calm alertness rather than stimulation.

5. Is Ritū gluten-free?

Ritū contains roasted barley extract. Because it is spray extracted, much of the gluten is left behind in the process. However, if you have celiac, please exercise caution and avoid Ritū.

6. What does Ritū taste like?

Ritū is rich, roasted, and slightly bittersweet. Think deep, earthy notes similar to dark roast coffee, softened by cacao and subtly sweet roots. It’s not sugary, flavored, or artificial — just grounded and warming.

7. How does Ritū make you feel?

Most people describe Ritū as steady, calming, and grounding. There’s no jolt, no jitter, and no crash. Just a gentle sense of presence that supports focus without urgency.

8. When should I drink Ritū?

Any time. Many people enjoy Ritū in the morning as a coffee replacement, while others drink it in the afternoon or evening because it won’t disrupt sleep. Ritū meets you where you are.

9. How do I prepare Ritū?

Stir one tablespoon of Ritū into hot water. That’s it. You can also enjoy it with milk or milk alternatives, over ice, blended, or even sprinkled into foods — Ritū is meant to be flexible, not precious.

10. Can I drink Ritū every day?

Yes. Ritū is made from real plants traditionally consumed as foods, not stimulants. It’s designed to be part of a daily rhythm rather than something you cycle on and off.

11. Is Ritū good for digestion and blood sugar balance?

Ritū contains naturally occurring prebiotic fibers and no added sugars or sweeteners. Many people find it gentler on digestion than coffee and more supportive of steady energy throughout the day.

12. Can I drink Ritū while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Ritū was developed with guidance from a doula and is made from traditionally consumed food plants, not stimulants. Every body and pregnancy is different, so we recommend reviewing the ingredient list with your healthcare provider to decide what’s best for you.

13. Is Ritū’s packaging compostable?

Yes. Ritū is packaged in home-compostable materials designed to return safely to the earth. Simply tear the pouch into smaller pieces and place it in a home compost system, buried in the earth of your home garden, or municipal compost where accepted. It’s designed to fully break down and return to the earth in a few months.

14. Is Ritū sustainable?

Yes. Ritū is made from ecologically resilient plants that require significantly less water and fewer inputs than coffee (which takes 36 gallons of water per cup to cultivate). Our ingredients are chosen for both their nourishment and their relationship to the land.

15. Why is Ritū subscription-first?

Because ritual is built through repetition. Subscriptions allows us to offer better pricing, plan to reduce waste, and support your daily practice — with full flexibility to pause, skip, or cancel anytime.
